Top Acne Treatments

Summary of Results

Reviews of the top 3 products consistently featuring in independent review websites, and user rated with good to excellent effectiveness.

#1 Best Acne Treatment - Clearpores Skin Cleansing System

Many review sites rate Clearpores #1 for teen and adult acne. Slightly more expensive but the user consensus is that superior effectiveness justifies the cost differential.
This is a 3 step system including: Acne Cream, Acne Gel, and Herbal Pills to cleanse inside to prevent future breakouts. (Rating 5 Stars) See Testimonials

#2 Best Acne Treatment - AcneZine (formerly Acuzine)

New more powerful formula, designed with busy professionals in mind - just take one pill a day. (Rating 4 1/2 stars). (See Testimonials)

#3 Best Acne Treatment - ZenMed Derma Cleanse System

Also a 3 step system. Specifically formulated for sensitive skin rejuvenation. Reasonably priced and very effective. (Rating 4 Stars).

Severe case alternative - Vilantae Vitamin B5 Treatment

Sufferers from more severe acne unresponsive to other recommendations above, could try  Vilantae Vitamin B5 Treatment.  Works like Accutane to regulate sebum production, but without Accutane side effects.  Must not be combined with vitamin B supplementation.

Survey Scope

The first problem facing the acne sufferer is the sheer volume of acne treatment products and all their competing claims - some well founded and others less so.

It is impractical for any individual to try more than a small fraction of the available acne products - especially as most will take up to 6 weeks to be fully effective.

The second issue is that everybody's body and health state is subtly different, so a perfectly good solution for one person is not necessarily the best for another.

One obvious difference is how naturally dry or oily is the affected skin area - also whether this characteristic is evenly distributed or varies in patches (the latter is quite common).  Many products work by drying skin natural oils so when applied to already dry skin can leave it irritated and tender unless additional moisturizer is used to compensate.

These uniquely personal differences in body chemistry make it difficult to impossible to devise an all encompassing rating system that holds true for all patients in all circumstances.

So, rather than exhaustively list the products and all the permuations of relevant individual characteristics, and in so doing swamp the reader with masses of information they can never use, we have instead restrained the scope of reporting to the more popular over the counter brands (i.e. products tested over very large user populations); evaluating their ingredients plus a cross section of user comments regarding effectiveness.

Survey Analysis - Consensus

Initial conclusions were then compared with other independent review sites and the overall top product group was selected and then refined to a short list of three.  Although most review sites are ad supported, their user reports do consistently class all these leading brands as effective (with appropriate application and consistent on-going treatment).

Given the emerging consensus, our conclusion was that it was pointless to continue with further academic research when most users were clearly satisfied with these proven products in mass supply and easily available.  It is unusual that ALL THREE of the leading products would prove ineffective when employed correctly - and in such a situation the patient should consult a specialist dermatologist before wasting money on further OTC alternatives.

Need for Continuing Application

Unfortunately, the need for continued application arises because topical solutions attack the symptoms of acne (the zit site) but cannot eliminate their cause permanently (i.e. hormonal imbalance provoking excess sebum production).  Moreover, even treatments attacking the problem at source usually see their effects limited to the duration of medication.  Once medication is halted the problem typically re-emerges (often following a short period of remission).

Most acne sufferers are, quite naturally, seeking a quick but permanent cure; and find it frustrating to accept the hard reality that  treatment and daily preventative skin-care may be required for extended periods (years even) until such time as the body metabolism adapts naturally to better regulate sebum production.  Sadly, it seems that the distress caused by acne is not given very high priority by Mother Nature.
